How does a typical day on the ward actually work? What are the tasks of our colleagues in the peripheral area? I had asked myself these and other questions and simply wanted to take a look around the ward – without touching anything. Without further ado, I asked our long-standing colleague Manuela Matys if she would do this “fun” thing for and with me – after a quick yes and a brief clarification with the customer, we got started!

Then it was time to get started…
The first patients arrived, activities in the surgery, ringing the bell, measuring and recording vital signs, meeting patient needs such as providing blankets (even I could do that), but minor emergencies also had to be dealt with. Manuela handled everything very confidently, respectfully and with great dedication. At 9 o’clock she said: What? Already 9? I was quite shocked because it was only 9 for me. As a dispatcher in the office, I’m not used to all this running around.
Done!
At the end of my shift, it was a very interesting experience to have shadowed a nurse on the ward. I take my hat off to all my colleagues who see this job as a calling and do it with passion! The next day, I sat back down at my office desk and searched for and planned new locations for you. I am grateful for the experience and will certainly be looking over a colleague’s shoulder again in the future!
